John Delaney Birgitt Philippides-Dela Seal House Maine

Hi, we’re Birgitte and John!

We’re so excited to welcome you to our little piece of heaven in Lubec, Maine.

We were first introduced to Maine in our youth - John was a teenage volunteer for the West Quoddy Marine Research Station in Lubec while it was still in operation, and I have fond memories from family visits to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island.

Before landing in Lubec, we both lived in New York City. I am a former celebrity make-up artist who has worked with a wide range of actors, entertainers, and heads-of-state. I also served as President and Co-Founder of the West 13th Street Alliance/ Project NYC, a grass-roots community-centered non-profit group focused on improving the quality of life in the West Village in New York City. I co-founded Trans-Beauty Clinic, an organization initiated to provide cosmetic and esteem-building assistance to the transgender community in the Big Apple. In my free time, I am passionate about home design, art, travel, and artisanal food - you can often find me entertaining with some of my homemade cocktails or working on decor for our upcoming property, Eagle’s Landing.

An avid whale watcher from a young age, John holds a master’s degree in biology from Miami University. Most recently, John was the Director of Communications for the New York Aquarium and a former Assistant Director for the Bronx Zoo-based Wildlife Conservation Society. His efforts to promote projects on animal research and conservation included press releases and publicity focused on gorillas, elephants, tigers, rainforests, and coral reefs over a period of two decades. Today, he enjoys working as a guide and naturalist for the Tarquin, a local tour boat that helps visitors discover the abundance of wildlife in our corner of Maine.

After visiting Lubec for years, we made a permanent move in 2020. As the pandemic spread across America, we found a safe haven in this quaint town on Johnson Bay. After purchasing Seal House, we decided to expand and build The Tiny House at Lubec and our upcoming property, Eagle’s Landing. Our goal is to preserve the rich history of Lubec while attracting new generations of visitors to experience the beauty of this small town by the sea. We’re excited to host you in Lubec and hope you enjoy your stay here!
